A beautiful setting, a wedding and a highland cow

My husband and I attended our friends’ wedding at the weekend at the lovely Newton Hotel in Nairn, Scotland. It was the first time we’d stayed in Nairn, and what a quaint little place it is – set amongst beautiful scenery, especially in the snow!

The Newton Hotel, Nairn

The hotel itself was really nice and peaceful, the traditional rooms were individually styled and the bar and restaurant areas had a touch of modern style. We only ate at the hotel at breakfast and at the wedding meal during our stay but we couldn’t fault it at all.

We attended the wedding on the Saturday – it was a beautiful sunny day but really cold! The whole day went without a hitch and the hotel staff were brilliant.

Places we ate

When we arrived on the Friday, we had lunch at Mack’s Cocktail Bar and Grill – we both had hot wraps served with curly fries and salad. I also had a strawberry daiquiri which was lovely, but perhaps a little cold in -2 degrees!

That evening we had dinner at the Bandstand Sea View Restaurant in the Braeval Hotel, it was a pretty little restaurant with a romantic setting, and as it was Friday Night Steak Night we both went for the Sirloin which was cooked to perfection.

A Valentines walk in the snow!

On the Sunday – Valentine’s Day, we woke up to the hotel grounds covered in a light dusting of snow. It was still snowing as we ate breakfast so it was really pretty looking out as it fell. After breakfast, we decided to go for a stroll. The scenery was stunning and we walked as far as the beach, but weren’t quite brave enough to go near the water as it was freezing! Along the way, we met a friendly highland cow who happily posed for some photos.

All in all, it was a great weekend in beautiful surroundings and seeing our friends get married there was definitely the cherry on the top!
